We are creating the brand new vehicle to mine Helium-3 on the Moon in a fast and efficient way
First fully-autonomous space vehicle that moves around by hopping
About SB-I
On the moon sustained flight will be an inefficient use of energy, the vehicle will hop around the Moon’s surface using ion thrusters. These ion thrusters will be powered using a nuclear reactor.
To estimate SB-1’s movement during flight, we will have sensors and a camera to measure the altitude of the vehicle. We will also use an orbital maneuvering system(OMS) situated on all our planes to make any necessary adjustments.
"Drone is an interesting idea, especially when it's hopping, because Moon wouldn't have the atmosphere to fly in, so you'd be having some challenges especially when you are trying to carry any substantial matter."
Stephen Smith
Engineer at ispace technologies
"Hopping is a very good way to move across the surface of the Moon in a very efficient manner, because there is no atmosphere for drones, and driving will take a long time using wheels, plus obviously there is craters on the way."
